radiologist salary




The study of ionizing radiation and their effects on the patients suffering from abnormal tumors is called radiology. A medical professional who gives doses of ionizing radiation to the patients to eradicate the cancerous cells is called a radiographer or a radiologist. A radiologist works in hospitals, clinics and medical laboratories. In order to become a radiologist one has to complete the medical school and spend several years of internship to become a radiologist. Educational requirements vary from one country to the other. Formal training courses in radiography takes almost eighteen months to four years where one earns a certificate, associate degree or a bachelor’s degree. Since these professionals deal with potentially harmful radiation, most of the countries have strict restrictions and regulations in regard to practicing this profession.

The educational pattern differs from one country to the other. In the first period of study, they will learn about human anatomy, physiology, mathematics, radiation physics, pathology, logic, biostatistics, medical imaging science, computer programming, patient care and management, medical ethics and nursing procedures. Radiology is a profession which brings more credit to the physician in terms of salary and in profession. A radiation technician job is very important in oncology, where patients affected by severe cancer are treated by radiation. The salary of these professionals is high but varies from one country to the other.

In Canada, the salary of the radiologist varies between $19.5 and $28.5 per hour. The full time salary for these professionals is about $55,000 for approximately 27 hours for fresher and lasts up to $85,000 for the top level technicians. According to statistics Canada, the average salary for radiation technicians was about $50,000 in 2005. In Great Britain, the salary of a fresher is between 20,710 euros and 26,800 euros whereas the senior radiographer salary ranges from 34,000 euros. The highest salary is offered to the manager or consultant radiographers which is about 65,000 euros per year. The superintendent radiographers are offered salary of about 30,000 euros.
